Artifacts

In June 2017 the Lakehead Transportation Museum Society acquired the historic former Canadian Coast Guard Icebreaker the Alexander Henry.  The ship opened to the public  and was rechristened on July 18th 2018 sixty years to the day that she was put on the water at the Port Arthur Shipyards.  She serves as the center piece of the LTMS’s goal of a transportation museum dedicated to the rich transportation history of Thunder Bay and area.

Future Development and Acquisitions:

The LTMS is currently expanding its footprint at the Henry site with a new area to be developed for expanded gift shop and admission area as well as future home for two restored Brill trolley buses that were built post World War Two at the Canadian Car Foundry in Fort William.
The LTMS has also received a generous private donation of local large model railway display that it will be restoring and be included into future development.
The LTMS is also presently negotiating with the City of Thunder Bay for the potential future relocation of the historic James Whalen Tug from her current location at Kaministiqua River Park to the Henry site.

Donate an Artifact:

The LTMS is looking for transportation artifacts for display and  interpreting the rich transportation history of Thunder bay and area.
If you have or think you might have an artifact of interest to the LTMS and are thinking of making an artifact donation you can contact the President Charlie Brown at brillbuddies@gmail.com or phone 807-355-5277.
Once contacted the LTMS will determine the significance of the artifact, make arrangements for its transportation, determine how it will be displayed and assess a value of the donation for a charitable tax receipt to be issued to the donor for their contribution.
The donor will also be asked to sign an artifact release form transferring ownership of the object(s) to the LTMS. The transfer of ownership states:
”  The above named Donor, being the sole legal and beneficial owner of the object(s) listed below and having the full right and entitlement to dispose of the same, hereby irrevocably and unconditionally donates such object(s) absolutely to the Lakehead Transportation Museum Society, free and clear of all claims, liens and encumbrances of whatsoever nature.”
