American Football Betting
As the name suggests, American football is a ball sport that originated in the USA from rugby, but has developed very independently. This sport is enormously dominated by rules and tactics, which is why it is often referred to as “lawn chess”. There are a good 700 different rule applications. In order not to go beyond the scope, only an overview of the goals as well as the basic features of the game will be presented below.
History
Sports History. The origins of American football go back to the 19th century, when the game was gradually developed at universities in the USA. Different teams from the forerunners of American football and rugby teams played against each other and had to work out compromises in the rules. This led to a corresponding shift in thinking and consequently a development towards American football as well as Canadian football, which is quite similar to American football. Alongside more recreational activities, a professional sport slowly developed as early as 1892. In 1912, in turn, the final shape of today’s game was established. After that, there were only minor rule changes.
Explanation of the Rules American Football
Sports Rules. The game is divided into four quarters of 15 minutes each (in the USA). Without the 20-minute break, this makes a theoretical playing time of only one hour. However, due to the constant interruption of the game, games can drag on for a very long time, usually lasting 3 1⁄2 hours in the end. The aim of the game is to carry the elliptical ball into the opponent’s end zone or to score a field goal.
American football is played with the elliptical ball.
The field of play has a length of 120 yards (109.73 m) and is divided into twelve parts of ten yards each. The game is played on 100 yards, with the remaining 20 yards representing the two end zones, at the ends of which are the goalposts.
A team consists of eleven players and, depending on the situation, either only the offence or only the defence of a team is on the field. Each team has four attempts to gain at least ten yards of space. If this is not successful, possession of the ball changes.
In addition, a field goal can also be scored without a touchdown, which brings three points. If it is not possible to use the four attempts to gain ten yards of space, a punt can be attempted. This involves kicking the ball as far away as possible in order to keep the opposing team as far away from their own end zone as possible after the ball change.
The aim of the game is, of course, to score more points than the opponent. If there is no winner after the regular playing time, an extra time of 15 minutes follows, in which the sudden death principle is applied. The first team to score wins the game.
Types of Betting American Football
Although American football is a less popular sport in Europe, there are still numerous betting opportunities. The large selection of bets is primarily due to the fact that there are bets on each individual quarter and again on the first and second halves of the game. Basically, however, the options are repeated here.
